DMAI – 71 YEARS OF GROWTH & GLORY

The Dyestuffs Manufacturers Association of India (DMAI), established in 1950, is the Apex Body representing Dyestuffs, Pigments, Optical Brighteners and Dyes Intermediates Manufacturers from all over the country, covering all sectors of the Colorants Industry –small scale units to multinationals; a fact well recognized by the Government authorities. DMAI regularly takes up various issues of concern to the Colorant Industry with the respective Government Agencies. Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India has recognized the Association as the apex body representing the colorant industry in our country and seeks DMAI opinion before framing policies concerning Colorants Industry.

DMAI honors its members with annual awards for their excellent performance in various fields, felicitates students of Color Chemistry from ICT, conducts Seminars, arranges and hosts overseas Trade Delegations and organizes Conferences to bring Colorant makers and its diverse users on a common platform to understand the present and future needs and deliberate on available products, future trends and developments. For the convenience of ends users, DMAI with the support of Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India had organized two such Conferences on “Textiles : Business & Environment Sustainability – Challenges for the Colorants Industry’ in November 2013 in Coimbatore and in February 2016 in Ludhiana, the areas in their vicinity being major Textile Processing clusters in India. DMAI also organized three seminars on Green Chemistry jointly with the Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India since 2013 and latest one on 7 th January 2020.

Over the years, DMAI & China Dyestuff Industry Association (CDIA) have established close links. Besides holding regular interactions, and active participation in China Interdye Exhibition every year, the first Inter Dye Asia, an international exhibition was jointly and successfully held in December 2011 in Ahmedabad. Another such exhibition Interdye Asia 2015 organized by CDIA, with DMAI support, was held in Ahmedabad in December 2015.

CDIA, jointly with DMAI, initiated steps to establish Asia Dyestuff Industry Federation (ADIF) with the objectives of assisting the colorants Industry to meet global challenges and accelerate the development of Asian Colorants Industry. ADIF was accordingly formed in 2018 with the President of DMAI as the 1 st ever Chairman for the next 5 years. Besides, DMAI is now being recognized globally with invitations for participation and presentation, latest at ITMA 2019 for chairing Panel Discussion (the world’s most established textile and garment machinery exhibition since 1951) at Barcelona and XXIV International Congress of International Federation of Associations of Textile Chemists and Colourists (IFATCC) organized in 2016 with the support of the Czech Association of Textile Chemists and Colourists.

Starting in 2005, the International Convention on Colorants (COC), jointly conducted by DMAI with support from the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers has become a very successful biennial events, the last one was held in 2019.

During lockdown also due to COVID 19 pandemic DMAI was active in organizing webinars. It organized jointly with GDMA and REACH Law a webinar on ‘Implementation of REACH like KKDIK Regulation in Turkey and UK’ on 14th July 2020 and jointly with Colour Publications and GDMA on ‘The Dynamic Fortunes of the Indian Colorant Industry post –COVID’ on 25th September 2020. Also, conductedtwo webinars on ‘Safety Measures for the Colorant Industry’ on 21 st June 2021 and 20 th August 2021. It further organized webinar jointly with Finrex Treasury Advisors LLP on ‘RBI Master Direction for Export of Goods and Services on 21 st October 2021.

Organised Conference on Colorants Unlimited - a Confluence of Makers and Users jointly with SDC and supported by the Dept. of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, GOI and made presentation at the International Dye Industry Development Forum and led delegation to World Expo at Shanghai
2011
Submitted 3rd Strategic Action Plan for Dyes & Dye-Intermediates Industry 2011-2020 to Govt. of India. Organized the 1st Asia International Dye Industry, Pigments and Textile Chemicals Conference and Exhibition (Interdye Asia 2011) in association with China Dyestuff Industry Association in Ahmedabad in December 2011.
2012
Led DMAI delegation to 12th China Interdye 2012 Exhibition in Shanghai, China in April 2012. DMAI Secretariat shifted to the newly renovated office at Antop Hill Warehousing Complex, Wadala (E), Mumbai in November 2012.
2013
Conducted the 5th International Convention on Colorants -13 jointly with ICT and supported by the Dept. of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, GOI in January 2013 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. - Led DMAI delegation to the Footwear & Leather Fair in Colombo, Sri Lanka and conducted Half Yearly Meeting. -Organized jointly with the Dept. of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, GOI a seminar on 'Application of Green Chemistry in the Colorants Industry' on 20th September 2013 at Hotel Sea Princess, Mumbai with - A two days conference on Textile : Business and Environment Sustainability - Challenges for the Colorants Industry was organized with the support of the Dept. of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Govt. of India in Coimbatore on 29-30 November 2013
